That is funny, I did watch Sicko and after watching that I decided to start researching health care, then I found a site talking about living abroad, etc, and then starting researching and decided Italy had a lot to offer. Are your grandparents still in Italy? You might be able to get resident status just because of your linage and if you can prove it. We first want to go out there and check it out, trying to plan for this in 2009. But I'm doing research in the meantime! And yup your right about getting insurance, just your luck you don't have it and something happens. If you decide you like Prosper or lending club let me know, I'll give you referrals for those to, I know you get 25 with lending club once you put like $50 bucks in it and I think it's the same for Prosper - one financial book I read, can't remember which said something about you becoming the "banker" like with real estate (if your rentals pay out enough) you then become the banker and have income and your really not working at all. This is even more true with prosper/lending club, I just fund the loans, and then watch the payments come in paying me 15% on average - you get enough of these and you'll start seeing monthly income. I just started last year and don't have much money in there, but with lending club you can bid as low as $25 and with proper $50 I think - but they are usually high risk loans so I figure this is will be the "high risk, High return" part of my money portfolio!

Also - your dream is great, mainly quit the job and do what you love. You can get there, but in the meantime, start thinking of ways to earn income from other things that don't take much time (but don't get roped into any of those online business scams) lol and lets try and use our money the best way, making it go as far as possible! Debt settlement is one way to cut the debt and use the least amount of $ to get out of this mess!

No wayyy!!! I love Italy! I am a 3rd generation Italian. My grandparents are from there. I have always wanted to go and plan to one day WHEN I get out of this debt mess.

Gosh-my husband and I have this conversation all the time. I consider 41 an excellent age to retire. You still have your whole life ahead of you. With all your debt paid off, you will have no trouble moving to Italy or anywhere else you decide. You can do it!

Hey-speaking of free healthcare...please watch SICKO and watch the deleted scenes too. It will really make ya think! I just went thru that whole insurance thing January 1st when I had to renew mine. It is so expensive. I really could not afford it but took it anyway because if I didn't, you know what would've happened. It would just be my luck.

That is a great idea about lending club and prosper. I only looked at it on the borrowing end but it would be interesting to be on the other side if it. HMMMM?

My dream-well it is simple:

Be out of this debt mess. Quit my job and do what I love even if I make peanuts. Do the volunteer work I always want to do but can't because I work so much now to pay debt. Spend more time with my family and travel. Really just living a happy, healthy and stress free life would be enough for me.

Jen-I wish you all the best. You are already on your way to living your dreams!
